Imagine walking into what you think will be a kick-ass party, and as you walk towards the door, you’re wondering why everything is strangely quiet. You think you are in the wrong place, but as you enter, you see scores of people dancing and having fun, but there’s no music coming out of any speakers. Most everyone has headsets on except for a few people that have set them aside to talk. The host hands you your headsets, shows you your volume control and tells you that you can choose between 2 channels, each with different music. There is a DJ who is spinning the tunes on both channels.

As I know many of you are corporate event planners, I can see this type of entertainment fitting into a client networking party quite nicely. You’re showing your clients a fun time, but if anyone wants to chat or network, all they have to do is remove their headsets and take a break from the dance music, in order to have a quiet (or spirited) conversation. The other cool aspect of this, is it’s uniqueness. Even if Silent Disco is a bit gimmicky, people will forgive that once they start groovin’ to the music.

Another interesting twist to the concept is a “silent” dueling piano show, where the performers are broadcasting through the headsets rather than a traditional sound system. I’ll be honest and say that I’ve never actually performed a dueling show this way, but I think it would be a lot of fun for everyone and am kind of excited to pitch this to an adventurous client that is looking for something that, to my knowledge, has never been done before.
